Diary of Betsey Jennings Nixon, 1853-1866.

Original diary of Betsey Jennings Nixon of Marietta, Ohio written from the age of fourteen to twenty seven. The entries include comments on her daily routine, schooling, church activities, social visits, and her courtship and subsequent marriage to Milo Willson. Also includes detailed description of rural life during the Civil War, her struggles running a farm while her husband served in the 148th Regiment Ohio, and her requests to local and state authorities for financial assistance. Typescript transcription of the original is also included.

Betsey Jennings Nixon was born 11 February 1839 in Marietta, Ohio to William Nixon and Louise (Sheldon) Nixon. She married Milo Willson of Mercer, Pennsylvania on 31 March 1857. Betsey and Milo removed to Del Norte, Colorado in the 1880's to be closer to their two sons, William and Zebulon, who had moved to Colorado in the 1870's.
